#United States Postal Service
The United States Postal Service (USPS) is an independent agency of the executive branch of the United States federal government, mandated to provide universal mail service to all American communities. Tracing its origins to 1775 with the appointment of Benjamin Franklin as the first Postmaster General, the organization was established in its current self-financing form by the Postal Reorganization Act of 1970. It operates as one of the few government entities explicitly authorized by the U.S. Constitution, primarily funding its operations through the sale of postage and related products.
