The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are a team of four anthropomorphic turtle brothers trained in ninjutsu, who fight evil in New York City. Created by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, the franchise first appeared in a comic book in May 1984 and is currently owned by Nickelodeon Group (Paramount Global). Each turtle is named after a Renaissance artist—Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michelangelo—and is identifiable by a distinct mask color and weapon.
