"The Sound of Music" is a musical franchise based on Maria von Trapp's 1949 memoir, "The Story of the Trapp Family Singers." It was first brought to the stage as a Broadway musical in 1959 by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II, and subsequently adapted into a highly successful film in 1965. The narrative follows Maria, a governess who introduces music and joy to the von Trapp family in Austria as the threat of World War II looms.
