Madeline is the central protagonist of a long-running children's book series created by Ludwig Bemelmans, first appearing in 1939. She is a spirited young girl who attends a boarding school in Paris under the care of Miss Clavel. Despite being the smallest of twelve students, Madeline is noted for her fearlessness and distinctive attire consisting of a blue coat and a yellow hat.
