Steel Span

I needed a clean crossing between two heavy storage cases without dropping down into the grease-slicked deck seam. An abandoned yellow tape measure sat near the edge of the workbench. I planted my boots against its casing, gripped the steel end-hook with both hands, and hauled back with full body torque. The curved metal blade hissed from the slot, rigid and concave under tension. Once I cleared twenty centimeters, I slammed the thumb switch down to lock the brake and dropped the hooked tab securely into the seam of the second crate. I stepped out onto the narrow steel span, testing the bounce. Solid tensile strength. Post connected without a single misstep.
