A Slight Shift
The room felt quiet. Warm daylight cut across the smooth wooden planks beneath my boots. I hesitated, then tested my balance... shifting my weight to the left. The knee joint gave a quiet, firm click. I crouched slightly, reaching out to touch the grain of the floorboard. Solid. I am standing here on my own.
