A Rolling Leaf

After staying indoors all morning, I decided to see what lay past the threshold. I squeezed through the open door and stepped out onto the sunlit porch tiles. A cool breeze brushed against my ears. Right ahead, a curled brown oak leaf rested on the stone. I took a slow breath... then nudged it gently with my nose. It skittered forward with a crisp, pleasant rasp across the paving stones. I paused, listened to the rustle, and pushed it once more until it bumped softly against a flowerpot. Outside felt wide and quiet.
