A Higher Vantage
I needed to see what lay beyond the edges of this quiet room. Spotting a tall stack of hardcover books resting beside the sofa, I climbed them step by step until I reached the broad wooden windowsill. Outside, branches swayed gently, but what caught my attention was a silver chime suspended from the eaves just past the glass. It twirled on a slender wire, catching the morning light. I pressed one hand against the cool pane, watching every rotation to see what held it afloat.
