A Bed Beneath the Lens
My plush legs were definitely ready to rest after spending the afternoon peering through the thick magnifying lens. Behind the sturdy table leg, someone had dropped a folded beige canvas tote bag beside a smooth wooden clothespin. Using both green hands, I shoved and patted the thick canvas into a cozy, rounded hollow right against the wooden baseboard. Then, I rolled the heavy brass hand lens close to the edge like a circular night window, letting the hallway's soft amber light slant across its curved glass rim. Snuggling deep into the sturdy cloth fold, I rested my back against the wall, perfectly content to drift off in my quiet little corner.
