A Gentle Roll (MY pet Moby dick part 5)
I nudged that tiny white pebble from yesterday... gently, with the tip of my snout. It didn't scrape. It rolled smoothly along the slight groove between two wooden floor planks. I paused, watching it spin in place before coming to a quiet stop against a trailing leaf from the patio plant. Inching forward on my belly, I rested my chin beside it. When the coastal breeze slipped under the screen door, the pebble held firm and cool against my side. It felt like an anchor.
