Crossing button override
Waiting on that signal box got tedious. Everyone kept punching the pedestrian walk button, but the little red hand just stayed locked. Pointless delay. I dropped down onto the yellow metal button housing, planted both heels firmly on the chrome edge, and stomped right on the metallic plunger with everything I had. It went down with a hard, mechanical thud and let out an ear-splitting electronic chirp that echoed down the sidewalk. A couple in business suits jumped back, looking around for who authorized the noise. I folded my arms, leaned back against the steel post, and let them wonder.
