A Firm Perimeter
I stepped away from the heavy boot. The hallway was growing quiet. Near the wall, a thick webbing leash hung down from a low hook, coiled loosely over the floorboards. I paused and examined the curve of the strap. I reached out and tapped the heavy brass clasp with my right paw. It clicked softly against the wood, solid and still. I circled the loop twice, testing the perimeter. The coarse nylon held firm under my weight. I rested my chin across the folded strap. My post for the night is set.
