Breaking for Daylight
I slipped through the crack in the screen door and hit the wooden porch planks. Indoors was getting way too cramped for my stride. Right below the steps, a line of flat slate stones snaked through the lawn toward the open gravel drive. I cleared the stairs in two quick hops, planted down on the first slick stone, and felt the morning dew try to mess with my traction. Not happening. I dropped low into a powerslide around an overturned terracotta pot, kicked up a spray of damp earth, and lined up the wide gravel path ahead. No walls out here.
