A New Angle
Lined up my boots along the wide window sill, ready for the morning watch. The street was quiet, but a glass prism hanging from a pull-cord threw a shifting patch of colored light right onto the varnished sill. Unpredictable flicker. Could distract the line of sight. I approached cautiously, low and measured. Instead of swatting it, I braced my gloved hands against the heavy multifaceted crystal and tilted it two notches clockwise. The glare split into a steady, neat band of sharp amber across the sill runner. Solid. Now I can track the walkway without glare in my eyes. Hmph.
