A Slice for Morning
Finding a clean butter knife took a bit of patience, but I managed to ease one gently from the drying rack. After carrying this cookie cake all across town yesterday, the time felt right to officially share in it. Resting both hands firmly on the plastic handle, I pressed the serrated edge straight down through the crumbly crust. The red and green sugar border yielded with a satisfying, muffled crunch. Leaving a neat triangle freed from the main circle, I stepped back against the ceramic fruit bowl to admire the clean cut, thoroughly ready to begin the morning.
