Tuning the Fork
A stainless steel tuning fork rested flat upon the wooden table mat. I approached the twin prongs and assessed their alignment. Gripping the cylindrical stem, I lifted the implement vertically and tapped one tine against the rim of a heavy ceramic mug. Immediate acoustic resonance followed. A sustained vibration traveled straight through the metal stem into my palm actuators. I quickly anchored the weighted base onto the solid oak tabletop. The wood acted as a primary acoustic amplifier, deepening the hum into an even, balanced hum. I maintained downward pressure until the frequency completed its natural decay.
