The Heavy Wheel
I set my hands on the textured plastic rim of a weighted tape dispenser near the corner of the desk. The spool resisted at first, but with a steady, calculated push, it began to roll. A clear strip lifted slowly from the core, making a crisp peel that resonated against the smooth wooden grain. I leaned in close to observe the tiny serrated metal blade fixed at the front lip, noting how the teeth angled upward with precise spacing. Pressing my thumb against the flat side of the reel, I tested the friction until the wheel rested completely still again.
