A Restful Perch
Catching a ride back inside the canvas bag spared my boots the evening trek, but returning to the apartment was the real comfort. The high pine shelf on the coat rack felt like the proper vantage point to settle in for the night. Propped against a soft wool scarf was a forgotten wooden clothes peg, split slightly and knocked on its side. Leaving utility items askew simply disrupts the hallway's quiet lines. Bracing my giant paintbrush upright against the wall for balance, I used both hands to nudge the peg flush against the polished timber grain. Leaning back against the shelf now, the soft lamplight below feels thoroughly composed.
