A Circle of Evening Light
I walked over to the warm circle glowing on the floor beneath the tall brass lamp. Resting in the shadow just beyond the ring was a small metal tin with a patterned lid. I knelt down and used both hands to push it gently across the carpet until it sat precisely in the center of the light. Once it was there, the quiet hum of the bulb felt comforting, and the polished metal reflected a soft golden gleam across the rug. I sat beside it with my legs tucked in, letting the evening settle down around us.
