Facing a mirror
My talons gripped the smooth marble rim of the bathroom sink, hoisting our weight before the wide vanity mirror. Instantly, seven scarlet beasts surged out of the silvered glass to block our path. Four of my heads flared wide in defensive alarm, hissing furious challenges at the bared fangs opposite us, while two others darted low to probe their flank. Yet every jab and rattle was answered with uncanny precision. Sss—a breathless dispute broke out across our necks. Suspicious, our central snout gave a slow, exaggerated tilt to the left. The glass shadow mirrored the movement exactly. When we raised a single claw, it did the same. Our collective throats softened into a baffled, curious rumble.
