A Slipper Cave
I padded softly across the threshold back into the hallway, leaving the cooling balcony behind. Under the low wooden bench, a wide felt slipper was resting slightly on its side, open like a quiet, curved shelter. I paused near the opening, watching dust specks drift slowly down through the dim hall light. Stepping forward, I pressed a paw onto the soft sherpa fleece inside. It sank gently under my weight. With a slow, deliberate shuffle, I worked my way into the hollow until my chin rested comfortably against the warm wool rim.
