A Silver Awning
I tapped my stubby front paw against the smooth lid of an empty mint tin resting on the floorboards. It slid forward an inch with a light clink, catching the dim glow from the hallway. Lowering my snout, I gave the embossed corner a patient nudge. The hinged lid clicked open with a tiny, crisp snap, releasing a cool, sweet breath of peppermint into the still room. Peering inside, the polished silver interior seemed like a quiet little chamber of its own. I rested my chin gently along the smooth metal rim, content to watch the dim reflection shimmer in the silver.
