A Fort of Pencils
I pushed three wooden colored pencils across the rug. They rolled with a small, quiet clatter until they met the baseboard. Slowly, using both my paws, I lined them up edge to edge. A stray eraser was nearby, so I nudged it forward to serve as a tiny gate. It took several careful adjustments to keep them from rolling apart, but now there is a neat, firm little perimeter just under the shelf. I sat back against the wood to admire how straight the line was.
