A Soft Ambush
A rogue wool sock dared to dangle off the armrest of the couch. I lunged, clamping my jaws directly over the heel to pull the squishy intruder into my nesting perimeter. But instead of thrashing, the heavy knit yielded completely, wrapping warm and heavy around my snout. My furious growl sputtered out into a low, rumbling huff. The fabric smelled faintly of fresh laundry and dried grass. It wasn't prey after all. I hooked my talons into the ribbed cuff and dragged it down into a messy loop, curling my stiff tail tightly against its bulky warmth to settle in for the night.
