A Slanted Sunbeam

My snout slipped gently away from the acorn... nudging into the warm midday blaze pouring through the glass partition. Right where the frame meets the floorboards, someone had dropped a thick, rectangular parcel wrapped in coarse brown paper and tied with crisscrossing jute twine. Instead of turning back, I guided my plush length over the taut string, letting the rough, fibrous loops cradle my belly. Deep in the sunny hollow between the parcel and the wall rested a smooth green glass bottle cap. I curved my body into a lazy sss-shape around its crimped edge, resting my chin directly on the warm, sunlit cardboard while the quiet afternoon stretched on.
