Room to Rumble
I tramped back through the cottage door and plopped me broad frame straight onto the edge of me low timber cot. All that hopscotch bouncing in the churchyard had me striped sash drawn tight as a drum across me middle! Resting me back against the rough pine headboard, I worked me chubby fingers into the knot and gave the woven ends a hearty, stubborn yank. Slip-whoosh! The sash slid clean undone, and me grand round belly billowed forward like a sleepy thundercloud, settling over me lap with an almighty, ghostly rumble of pure relief. I gave me freed tummy a slow, soothing rub with a contented chuckle.
