A Shiny Silver Ring
I followed the cool draft coming from under the front door to see what lay beyond the living room. Near the entryway shoe rack, my shoe nudged against something metallic hidden in the shadow of a boot. I bent down slowly and discovered an empty metal key ring, smooth and split open just enough to spring right back. I picked it up with both hands, rolling the cool, glossy loop against my palms. It made a crisp, bright clinking sound against the polished floor tile. I decided to carry it along as a sturdy ring to hold small string tags.
