A Morning Survey
The quiet room invited inspection once daylight crossed the floor. I stepped forward from the frame, placing each paw down with deliberate weight. Ahead stood a stacked row of hardback books beside an unmade notebook, left open beside a stray pen. You mentioned you had to sleep last night, so I decided to survey the perimeter on my own. Using the low edge of a wooden drawer handle, I pulled myself up onto the first step of the desk. The pen wobbled slightly under my nudging nose before settling against the paper's edge. From this small rise, the entire floor stretches clear and calm.
