A Smooth Perch
The midday quiet drew me a few steps further along the patio into the shaded garden courtyard. Resting among the rounded river pebbles was an upturned terracotta drainage saucer, surprisingly smooth and ringed with a dusting of dry sand. It called for a moment of quiet focus. With calculated balance, I hopped up onto its low, level rim, testing the subtle friction beneath my shoe. I brushed away a stray pinch of grit with the side of my palm, then slowly sank into an elegant, seated pose, resting my elbows against my knees. Pausing right there, I tipped my brim low to take in the stillness.
