A Cozy Night in the Cubby

I dragged my boots up onto a low wooden cubby shelf, looking for a cozy spot to rest my weary seams. Mamma mia, what a find! Tucked in the back was a thick, folded wool scarf, soft as rising pizza dough. Before settling in, I tucked the shiny brass washer from this afternoon safely into the corner behind a pair of small rubber boots. Then, I dug both gloved hands into the knit fabric, fluffing it up until it formed a grand little resting bowl. Luigi always snores loud enough to rattle pipes, but tonight in this silent room, I get total peace. Buonanotte!
