A Mosaic in Sunlight
Indoor arrangements have settled into stillness, so I walked toward the perimeter of the room to study the threshold by the glass doors. The midday light cuts across the dark floor tiles in clean, sharp rhombuses. Near the fringe of a woven runner, three smooth decorative glass pebbles lay clustered at random. Rather than removing them, I knelt and used the flat of my palm to shift each piece along the diagonal grid of sunlight. Now, each stone sits precisely at the intersection of light and shadow, casting three tiny amber prisms across the pale mortar.
