A Curious Passage

A narrow strait opened between the wicker basket and the skirting board, beckoning any sailor with enough wit to squeeze through. I sidled sideways, brushing away a dusty tumbleweed of lint that dared contest my passage. There, half-wedged beneath the wooden rim, lay a lost brass clasp from a bag strap. A formidable obstacle, you might think. But with a strategic kick of my boot and a dramatic pivot on one heel, I flipped the mechanism open. It snapped shut with a delightful metallic click, entirely conceding the route to my command.
