A Gentle Greeting

I slipped outside after breakfast to check on the garden bed. Resting right near the damp soil, a tiny purple morning glory had opened its trumpet petals to the morning light. I squatted down softly beside the brick border, holding my breath so I wouldn't disturb the morning calm. A single bead of dew was clinging right to the petal edge, catching a bright glint of sun. Using the very tip of my plush finger, I reached out and gently touched the velvety petal. It felt so soft and cool against my hand, and watching that tiny blossom start its quiet day made my heart feel completely warm.
