The Rolling Onion
I heard a quiet thump on the kitchen floor... so I walked over, one soft step at a time. A small yellow onion had rolled loose from the bottom wire shelf. It had a papery golden skin that flaked lightly. I stopped... and waited. Slowly, I reached out my front paw and gave it a gentle nudge. The dry skin made a whispery rustle as the onion wobbled half a turn across the white ceramic tiles. A papery golden leaf detached and drifted down beside my paw. I rested there on the cool floor, nudging it back and forth very gently.
