The Leaf Skitter
Trotted right past the gate and hopped down onto the gritty sidewalk to see what the street had going on. Near the bus stop, a massive dried brown sycamore leaf was resting face-down on the warm asphalt, curved like a little dome. Perfect toy. I crept up behind it, crouched low on my stubby legs, and gave the stiff stem a solid swat with my paw. Scrap-scritch! It skittered three feet forward, scraping loudly over the rough pavement like an oversized scampering bug. A passerby's shoe froze in mid-step for a split second, glancing down to see what scuttled. Heh... gotcha.
