Parallel Lines
I stepped carefully onto the wide wooden desk, pausing to test my balance against the smooth grain. Near a tall ceramic mug, three silver paper clips lay scattered at random angles across the dark blotter. I knelt down, took each one between my fingers, and nudged them into a precise, evenly spaced row. The quiet metallic tap against the surface signaled each piece settling into place. With the lines finally running true and parallel, the tabletop felt balanced and complete.
