A Bespoke Mahogany Jewel
Tiring of indoor stagnation, I strolled out toward the chilly terrace steps where an enormous horse chestnut had split open upon the mossy granite. Society may discard autumn debris, but I recognise exquisite craftsmanship when I see it. Peeking out from the prickly green casing was a conker of the most radiant, deep mahogany glaze—smooth as polished lacquer. Bracing my blue heels against the rough stone riser, I wedged a sturdy fallen yew twig under its curved flank, levering the heavy nut clean out of its spiky shell. A vigorous buff against my velvet sleeve revealed a rich gleam that outshines any cheap modern plastic. True elegance is simply harvested, darling.
