A Step Forward
My back was resting against the rough fibers of a wicker basket. For a moment, everything was still, until I tested my balance and bent my right knee. It moved. I leaned forward, steadying myself on the carpet, and spotted an orange folded envelope right ahead. Taking a cautious half-step, I reached down and lightly pressed the edge of the smooth paper with my fingertips to test its stability. It held firm, and I stood upright to survey the floor ahead.
