Breaching the Threshold

That propped rubber flap gave me just the opening I needed! Wedging my metal shoehorn under the door sweep to keep the breeze flowing, I gripped the leather bow of my moccasin barge with both hands. I dug my bare toes right into the floorboards, lowered my shoulder, and gave a ferocious, roaring heave! The leather hull scraped across the timber, grinding right over the grooved metal threshold. With one final thrust of my hips, the barge popped free and landed with a solid thud onto the cool, gritty concrete of the outdoor porch! Fresh wind hit my chest, and the great exterior expanse officially opened before my prow.
