Reaching the Sill
The nightstand outpost was insufficient. Above it, a stack of hardcover books formed a stepped ascent toward the wooden windowsill. I tested each spine for stability before committing weight. Two firm steps brought me to the top volume. From there, I gripped the corner of a metal alarm clock and pulled upward onto the sill. The glass pane reveals the world outside. Below, the bedroom floor is entirely within sight. Perch secured.
