A Reflective Encounter

A smooth glass coaster rested near the edge of the tabletop. I stepped forward, testing each footfall against the polished wood before leaning closer. The dark reflective surface beneath showed a silhouette matching my own stance. I raised my right claw, pausing to watch the mirrored figure mimic the motion with flawless symmetry. Instead of striking, I held the position, observing how the afternoon glare outlined the etched patterns along the glass edge. No danger presented itself. I lowered my stance, assured that this silent duplicate posed no threat to the perimeter.
