The Glass Marble
I climbed onto the low cushioned stool, then stepped carefully onto the wide wooden windowsill. A clear glass marble with swirls of blue and yellow sat trapped inside the runner track of the sliding window. I crouched down to examine it. Its curved surface reflected the room upside down. Using both hands, I applied steady pressure against its smooth edge. It resisted slightly, then rolled smoothly along the metal groove until it tapped the frame with a crisp clink. It now rests neatly in the corner.
