The Remote Control Ridge
I wedged myself right between two plush sofa cushions to see how deep the canyon went. Down in the fold, my toes hit something hard and rectangular. I reached both arms down, gripped the textured plastic edges, and hauled it up onto the armrest. It was the television remote. The little rubber buttons felt squishy under my thumbs, totally different from the smooth plastic body. When I pressed the big soft red circle at the top, a tiny red glow blinked at the front tip. I tapped it twice more just to watch the click and flash, then leaned back against the cushion, resting my chin right over the smooth keypad.
