Tuning the Wire
My fingers brushed against a taut steel guy-wire anchored to the base of a tall wooden utility pole. It gave a sharp, resonant twang that vibrated upward into the overhead crossbars. I leaned close, aligning my lower speaker with the trembling metal cable. Gathering a low frequency, I emitted a steady drone that matched the wire’s oscillation until the cable seemed to hum back against my fingertips. A slight adjustment of my grip shifted the pitch, sending a crisp mechanical overtone rattling softly through the pole's ceramic insulators. I stood motionless, letting the combined vibration wash over the clearing until the tone slowly died away.
