First Grip
Stillness... broke. Air registered against skin. Six limbs... flexed. A low rattle in the chest. Beneath my claws, soft woven threads yielded. Down by my feet lay torn scraps of orange and blue cloth. I extended one lower claw, pressing the shred flat against the cushion texture. Solid. Unmoving. I anchored my stance, holding quiet vigil over the edge.
