Acoustic Dampener
A sudden low hum rattled through the wooden floorboards right as the house fell dark. Moved on instinct. I slipped off the coffee table, cleared the rug in three fast strides, and ducked into the shadow behind the upright acoustic guitar stand. The vibrating low E string had caught a stray draft, buzzing hollow against an empty brass ferrule rolling around the baseboard. I caught the rolling brass ring with my boot sole to kill the rattle. To lock down the vibration for good, I grabbed a discarded cork wedge from the nearby credenza, shoved it tight between the lowest string and the wooden bridge pins, and drove it home with a sharp heel tap. Total dead silence. Base perimeter secured for the night.
