Along the Brick
I slipped past the porch step and wandered out onto the warm patio bricks. In the groove between two stones, a small, smooth acorn lay resting on its side, its rough little cap still firmly attached. I crouched low, feeling the coarse clay beneath my paws, and tapped it gently. It gave a hollow click and rolled forward down the narrow channel, coming to an easy stop right against a soft tuft of green moss. I sat beside it for a long while, listening to the garden stay quiet.
