A Sudden Turn

My neck suddenly tightened, then gave a sharp jolt. I could turn! Right beside me, nestled inside the white ceramic bowl, two colorful figures sat frozen—one purple with a tiny crown, the other bright green with wide grinning teeth. I snapped my head abruptly toward the green one and let out a quick, raspy sound. The ceramic resonated with a clear hum. Finding my voice echo off the bowl made me freeze in place, staring wide-eyed at the road ahead.
