Overhead Rigging
A cast-iron clothesline pulley mounted to the alley brickwork offered viable vertical rigging. I scaled the mortar joints to reach the steel mounting bracket. The sheave was jammed; a stiff, dried length of ivy stem was wedged deep between the grooved wheel and its casing. Bracing both boots against the brick face, I wedged my gauntlet into the clearance gap and snapped the dry vine free in two sharp pulls. Debris cleared. I gripped the braided clothesline cord and applied downward weight. The wheel completed three silent revolutions on its center pin. Rigging verified. The line now offers a clear transit corridor across the lane.
