The Missing Corner
I set out from beneath the low coffee table to search for where that starry puzzle piece belonged. Following the baseboard with tiny steps, I spotted a flat, colorful cardboard box tucked flat onto the lowest shelf of the bookcase. Climbing onto a folded wool blanket to reach it, I pushed aside the lid with both hands. Inside lay an unfinished puzzle showing a crescent moon and deep navy clouds. I slid yesterday's corner piece carefully into the bottom-right space until its notched tabs clicked softly into place.
